New - Tough HR Interview Questions --If you could work anywhere, where would you work?

This type of question is simply asked to learn more about who you are as an individual.  If the job they’re interviewing for isn’t the interviewee’s ideal position, this question can be especially awkward to navigate. Even if the job seems perfect, you don’t want to risk sounding disingenuous by listing your prospective employer as the best place you can think of. Balani suggests pairing your specific career goals with the qualities of the open position. “Frame up the characteristics of a highly desirable job and then connect the dots on how this job meets that criteria.”

All answers should focus on securing the job and depicting the potential employer as a vehicle for furthering a career rather than a stepping stone to better opportunities. Showing an authentic desire to work for the company at hand proves beneficial. However, calling the available position a “dream job,” unless utterly true, rings false to most interviewers. Focus instead on portraying the job opening as an excellent opportunity to grow and blossom as a potential employee for the company. Identify and talk about the skills and traits befitting the position. In rare circumstances, use a legitimate dream job to show how education, abilities, work ethic, and skills relate to the available position as opposed to what some may consider unrealistic aspirations, such as becoming a famous athlete, an astronaut, or a rock star.

Remember the following Points :

- Make your response relevant to your career
- Talk about how you want to be right here in this interview
- Discuss how you already want to be working with the company doing great work
- If possible, ask the interviewer where he or she would like to be right now

Sample Answer: I  want to be right here where I’m at. Getting this job would do wonders for my career, and a lot of opportunities are on the line. My career is what’s most important to me, and I’ll do anything to move it forward. I honestly can’t think of anywhere else I would rather be.
