Communication Intern  

Background

As part of the efforts to speak with One Voice within context of the UN Development Assistance Plan II, the Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) in Tanzania is the main link between the UN and the Government and Co-chairs the Joint Government – UN Steering Committee. Enhanced communication between the UN and key stakeholders is a function performed by the office and it is in this respect that the Resident Coordinator’s Office is seeking an graphic design intern who will produce creative visual content which will be used in all methods of the RCO’s communication, both internally and externally, and support other communication functions of the office.

Duties And Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the UNRCO Communication Analyst the intern will be responsible for the following.

Creating daily press summaries covering both English and Kiswahili newspapers in Tanzania for dissemination to UN agencies and development partners;


Assist in drafting and disseminating content on UN Tanzania social media channels;


Assist in providing communications support for UN events and activities including logistical support;


Assist in maintaining and updating a filing system for all activities carried out by COAP. This involves documentation of press releases, meeting minutes, retirements, concept notes, approvals, etc;


Conducting monitoring and evaluation of media coverage after key UN events;


Conduct other tasks as required by the Communications Analyst based on the ongoing activities being conducted by the Communications Unit of the UNRCO.

Education

Required Skills and Experience

UNDP may accept interns providing the following conditions are met:

Enrolment

Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or
equivalent, or higher);
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Skills

Proficiency in English and Kiswahili.
Computer literate in standard software applications, e.g. Microsoft Offices, Web Browsers, etc.
Ability to use social media applications, e.g. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook.
Demonstrable knowledge of and interest in the work of the UN.
Demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views

Conditions

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.
All costs connected with an intern’s participation in the Programme must be borne by:
The nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students;
The student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel (including to and from the office), accommodation, etc.
The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan.
Costs incurred by an intern in the discharge of his/her functions shall be reimbursed by UNDP under the same rules as costs reimbursed to staff members.
Costs incurred by an intern undertaking official travel at the request of UNDP in the discharge of functions related to the internship activities shall be paid by the Organization on the same basis as costs incurred by staff members, including payment of DSA, as applicable
