One common job interview question is “Who would you say inspires you?”
This question is often asked to find out more about your values and goals. For this question, If you answer it in an uncertain way, it seems you’ve never been inspired. It is actually hard to answer this since mentioning a particular person would require you to first recognize the value-addition that person has made in your life. If you talk about your high school music teacher or football coach, you’ve wasted an opportunity to present qualities of great value to the company.
Whomever this inspiring person may be, remember that the interviewer is looking for a heartfelt response.
Your life's inspiration can come from a book, a mentor, your family, a celebrity, author - literally anyone! Talk to the interviewer about who has inspired your life and why. Choosing your answer carefully while being honest and enthusiastic can help break down barriers.
For example, if you are into computer engineering, then maybe talk about Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, or Elon Musk. Alternately, if you are into digital marketing, then perhaps mention Mark Zuckerberg or Jack Dorsey.

- Ensure you choose someone who truly inspired you in order to ensure a more authentic response.
- Use mentors, teachers, researchers, and family if they have relevance to the industry.

1. I have really been inspired by Joan Smith. She came from a poor household, and lived through a traumatic and abusive childhood. However, it was through her pure dedication that she finished her schooling and even went on to complete college, paid through scholarships and various jobs she undertook. Today she runs a center that aims to help women and children who are in a similar situation that she once was. She provides them with a safe space and even helps them escape their abusers.
2. My previous manager was a huge inspiration to me. His passion for this industry was motivating and put the fire in me to climb the ladder in my marketing career.
3. I find inspiration in a variety of people and things. I would have to say that the person who has most greatly inspired me has been my grandmother. She always had a smile on her face no matter how hard she worked and she loved everyone. She was well respected and always gave more than she received. I try to live like her as much as I can
